The Moonsters! (Moonsters Group)

Moonsters characters48.png
Well, I finally did it! A piece with all the main Moonsters characters! Hobbs (middle left) is the leader of the group, being the one who brought everyone in the group together. He’s a kind and empathetic soul, going out of his way to assist those in need, although, he doesn’t always think things through to the fullest. He once lived in the large city of Centmill, located in the county Reedflow, but moved to the seaside town of Seefar located on Trident Isle III, which is, of course, located in the county Trident. Before becoming an adventurer / adventurer for hire, Hobbs worked alongside his boss Chester, on old worn goblin, as a farmhand near Seefar. Before working there, he worked as a mail sorter in Centmill, which is where he picked up his lucky satchel. Eli (left of Hobbs) is Hobbs’ best friend, he’s deductive and his actions are often based on the greater good, trying to do what is truly right in the long run. He’s the middle sibling of seven, who used to work alongside his siblings Xavier, Terry, and Ruby, together governing Pinnacta city, a mining city located on Luee mountain on Trident Isle III. He was the one who would do all the paperwork and some of the other unwanted tasks, being cooped up inside Pinnacta city most of the time. He later decided to quit his job because he felt like he kept getting the short end of the stick, along with his burning urge to explore the world. Buba (back left) is a water mage in training, she’s clever, sticks to her gut, and practically never backs down, standing up for her friends and herself. She used to run a local potion and elixir shop in the Trident mainland city of Rantdera with her good friend Vivian. Several years into their business, she and Vivian had a falling out, shutting down the business and going their separate ways.  When she was younger, Buba took just enough liquid magic classes that she was allowed to get a water type magic permit, however, she’s not a very skilled mage. In her free time, she teaches herself more and more water magic. It’s a slow process though. Blue (middle right) is a skilled mechanic and engineer and she’s a self-proclaimed treasure hunter. She’s loyal and innovative, although her anarchist tendencies often lead her towards trouble. Along with her knowledge of mechanics, she also knows tidbits upon tidbits of information about other subjects, such as horticulture, horology, agriculture, automobiles, and mycology, which can be helpful from time to time. As a child she, along with her friends, committed many misdemeanors and crimes, mainly theft. This was the case up until she met her best friend Tykra, who guided her in a better direction. The two of them created an activist group called “The Irregulars”, who stood up for equal rights for all throughout the country of Cleafer. Clark (right of Blue) is the tech-savvy scientist of the group. He’s intelligent, observant, and mysterious, often keeping to himself. He lives in a massive bunker located under Trident Isle III, which is full of electronics old and new, labs, machines, and things even Clark doesn’t know the purpose of. He lets the rest of the group stay inside the bunker when needed, but they aren’t really allowed to touch much. While traveling with the group he’s often on his laptop or tablet running some strange program which lets him locate shadow beasts and “anomalies”. Some of these beasts broke into his bunker at some point, destroying rooms and sending the place into full lock down, and Clark’s been tracking and capturing them in containment capsules ever since. He’s a member of Hobbs’ group, but his main objective is to capture these creatures and locate anomalies more than anything else. Bertha (back right) is often cheerful, honorable, and fearless, being a retired swordswoman from Velvador, (aka The Land of Molten Ash) a country whose culture revolves around combat and strength. Until she joined up with Hobbs and crew, she hadn’t left Velvador before, and because of Velvador’s unique culture, she sometimes struggles to understand the social norms of the other cultures she encounters with the rest of the group. This once lead to her challenging a doorman to a duel to prove her worthiness to enter the building (the doorman kindly declined). In Velvador she was a respected warrior, however she never actually participated in any real battles. Her sword has a rounded tip and has been severely dulled. Bertha says this is intentional though, as she rarely finds it right to kill foes, although she does seem okay with killing shadow creatures and other monsters. On another note, I’ve changed the way most Kivisis (the race Bertha is) appear, looking more humanoid. This is mostly due to the fact that Kivisis were very clunky and hard to put in certain situations because of their immobility.

Nacho Head

soulless nacho head4
In the last post, I talked about some of the persona characters I’ve created. This here is another persona character that I mentioned named “Soulless Nacho“, which was originally created by my cousin in MS paint. I’ve drawn him in my style before, but I thought it would be a good idea to draw him in the same style as the first digital Double Aye Batteries drawing. As mentioned in the last post, Soulless Nacho is also the mascot of Soulless Nacho Apparel, a popular clothing brand that specializes in outerwear.

Battery Head

I was over taking some photos of a reservoir garden / outdoor classroom and decided it would be a cool idea to draw some of my characters into some of the photos. I recently started creating a series of characters with everyday objects as heads. Each one is kind of like a persona for my friends and I, such as this one, named “Double Aye Batteries” (Long story) is my character. The first persona character I created was for my cousin, the character is a nacho named “Soulless Nacho“, and is based off a MS Paint drawing he created several years ago with the same name. In the Moonsters universe, these characters appear as company mascots. For example, Double Aye Batteries is the mascot of Aye-OK Hardware, a computer hardware company popular in southern countries. Soulless Nacho is the mascot of Soulless Nacho Apparel, a clothing brand that specializes in sweatshirts, hoodies, over shirts, and belts among other things. Soulless Nacho Apparel also happens to be Denis’s favorite clothing brand.

Coffee Crew (Coffee Shop)

Coffee Rain 29
I’ve made some obvious changes to Cj’s (far left) design. I didn’t especially care for her old design, but after some sketches I was able to create a design that I think better fits the character. Another notable change is that I’ve used a different style from the normal Coffee Shop style, although I did this more or less just for fun. Brewster (bottom left) and Clyde (bottom right) were two of the first people to start working at Shooting Star Coffee. Clyde has always been the cashier, which is a good job for him considering he stays away from most of the heat-related things such as the coffee and ovens that could probably damage his head of ice. Occasionally Clyde will also help Cj sort through inventory and make sure that they have all of the materials they need to keep the business running. Brewster usually brews the coffee, (which is interesting considering his name) however his job has always varied, doing whatever someone needs him to do. However, Brewster spends most of his time slacking-off and doing nothing. In fact, nobody’s sure if he actually has an official job there. Tykra (middle) started working at the shop just awhile after Brewster and Clyde started, she works as the pastry baker, creating and displaying things like tarts and strudels. She’s also tasked herself with making sure that the work-space doesn’t get out of hand. Tykra isn’t a super expressive person, leading people to believe she dislikes her job, however, she actually finds her job very enjoyable, not being as much of a hassle as some of her old jobs. Around the time Tykra started working there, Teal (far right) started regularly coming to the shop, sitting at the counter for hours contemplating. He’s become good friends with the staff, telling them absurd stories of his adventures on some sort of spacecraft, talking about strange things like a “shadow mirror man”, a “butler wearing a pinstripe suit”, and some sort of “Cat-Dog hybrid”. Of course, nobody believes him, which is probably for the best, however he claims that all of his stories are true. Teal knows practically  no one believes his stories, but he’s fine with this, happy that he’s able to share them with someone anyway. Cj hasn’t been working at the shop for very long, she usually works in the storage room, keeping track of the inventory and making sure everything is easily accessible. She also helps Brewster with the coffee on occasion. Cj has a deal with the owner of the coffee shop in which she gets to live in an unused part of the storage room as long as she works there. The crew is forced to deal with the sometimes strange and unusual costumers that enter the shop on a daily basis. Because of this, the five of them have become great friends. Along with dealing with the customers, they’ve also been trying to help Cj recover her lost memories.

Galaxy Garbs (Rayva)

I started this awhile ago, but I didn’t finish it until recently. I was saving it for later, hoping to do more with it, but I really enjoyed the way it looked already, so I’ve decided to post it.

I was experimenting with different clothing designs for my characters awhile ago, and I really liked this space themed outfit for Rayva. I came up with several other different dresses for her, such as a blue ice themed gown with a yellowish brown coat underneath, and a neon themed dress covered in bright colorful streaks, along with a black sweater underneath. Out of the few I created, this one was my favorite, so of course, first chance I got, I started drawing her in it. I originally wanted Dennis to be in the picture, probably wearing a chromium colored sweatshirt and an antenna headband, but I couldn’t figure out how to fit him into the picture in a way I liked. Anyway, here’s a quick picture of Rayva for ya!

Disco Staff (Iris)

Iris was a former server at Rayva’s club. She now ventures alongside Rayva, Denis, and Rosa in an attempt to stop Rayva’s older sister Coryn from committing any more arson in Trident. She is considered a rombot, however, when rombots were first created, she was a service robot at a music themed pub just outside Trident. Her head is made of a bullet proof glass lava lamp and a disco ball, so when she applied at the club, Rayva hired her almost immediately. Ever since then Rayva and Iris started to connect and eventually became friends. Iris was one of around two thousand robots that was signed up to receive a test procedure that was meant to give sentience to already existing robots, effectively turning them into rombots. Because she was once a robot, she has the urge to continue her carrier as a server, this is most likely due to some of her old coding not being fully removed after the procedure. Rombots that were once robots are often considered “type R rombots” rather then just rombots. It is almost impossible to tell the difference between a rombot and type R rombot, however one of the only ways to tell them apart is that rombots have fingerprints, while type R rombots usually don’t. (Jeez… saying robot and rombot over and over again gets kinda confusing…)

Camp Out (CJ, Tykra, Teal, Brewster, Clyde)

Been awhile folks! I’ve been experimenting with the “Coffee Shop” style some more, and this is what I came up with. The new character with the television for a head is CJ, (front left) who like other sentient robots is considered a “Rombot”. She was found one morning in the back alley behind the coffee shop by Brewster (back right) and Clyde (front right) with her head seemingly broken off and nowhere in sight. Panicked, they carried her into the shop alerting their good friend Teal, (back left) who is almost always sitting at the counter, about their situation. Teal, knowing a bit about mechanics and computers, managed to break the old tv off the coffee shop wall and attach it to her neck, as this would be a sufficient, yet temporary, replacement for her head, at least allowing her to output sounds and project expressions onto the screen. After a few hours of work, Teal was able to find ways to add hearing and sight to the makeshift head using more junk from around the shop’s storage space. When she was turned on, it took her a few minutes to figure out what was going on, and when the three if them tried to explain what had happened, it was evident that she was suffering from amnesia. Tykra, (middle left) arriving late to work, met CJ and had the situation explained to her, Tykra recommended that they go to the authorities, but CJ strangely insisted that they do otherwise. CJ now works at the coffee shop so that Gus, the shop owner, allows her to have one of the unused storage rooms as her personal quarters / home, as she has nowhere else to go. She is now close friends with the rest of the coffee shop gang as they all try to piece her memory together. Overall, CJ is a kind and generous person, however, because of her memory loss, some things confuse her and are not always apparent. Something strange is that she has the occasional drastic mood swing or personality shift, Tykra has dubbed these “Personality Corruptions” , and blames them on her makeshift head’s antennas picking up strange signals. Along with that, her screen occasionally glitches for no apparent reason. Brewster, being the skeptical and somewhat untrusting person that he is believes she might been hiding something or that “maybe she didn’t lose her memory at all”.

Hope you all had a great holiday season and have a great new year!

A visitor… (Halloween)

You know those Society of the Stars people I was talking about the other day? Well, one of them showed up today, and I happened to get a few photos.

HALLOWEEN 3 Seems like they wandered into the neighborhood, they didn’t seem to be interested in the candy though, they just kind of kept walking… I wonder what they were looking for?

Oh, and also here are some pictures of a Teal jack-o-lantern.

Have a good night everyone…

Random Characters 2 (Xavo, Lana, Kelly, Vivian, Angus, Simon, ???)

I have a sketchbook where I’ve drawn many characters in my free time, so I decided to create another random character drop with some of my current favorites.

Random Characters2 finnished.png
To the left are Xavo, Lana, and Kelly, a few of Denis’s old friends. Together, the four of them created their own garage band named Prism. In the band, Denis played the Drums, Xavo was the main singer and played the guitar, Lana played the keyboard, and Kelly played the violin and remixed the music. Denis doesn’t talk about them much now but he still encounters them sometimes. Lana now works as a professorial photographer for an informational magazine, traveling to many foreign locations. Kelly now works as a computer hardware engineer for a technology company, still making and playing music in her free time. She is a race of plant like creatures called “Rootras” that enjoy areas with vegetation. Xavo is currently missing, and has been for awhile, and Denis almost never talks about him, acting strange and distant whenever he is brought up. In the middle is Vivian, one of Buba’s old associates, who currently runs a candle and incense shop in Rantdera, a city in the Trident Mainland. She is a race of bat like creatures known as “Nulls” that usually practice transcendence magic. She usually sits at the main counter in the shop, explaining and promoting the products. Buba seems to hold a grudge against her, although Vivian seems to forget why.  Angus, who is clinging to Vivian’s ankle, is Vivian’s one and only employee, he is almost always tired and lazy, usually talking in mumbles and grunts. Even with these traits, Vivian has never seen him sleeping on the job, and is surprisingly good at restocking the shop, even if he is a bit slow. To the right of Angus is Simon, a resident of Three Point City, the largest city in the Trident country. He enjoys sneaking into abandoned buildings and exploring restricted areas. Because Alice is stationed in this city, she’s had a few run ins with Simon, she is not a fan of his work. His next big goal is to see what he can find on Trident Isle 2. On the far right is, well… someone, but you can tell from their strange outfit that they are a member of the Society of the Stars. The Society of the Stars is a group of individuals who study the patterns in the stars and moons. Most of them spend their time in the mountains, gathering in camps to help each other with their work, gazing into the sky.  Some believe that the Society was made for a greater purpose, as some of them keep their feet grounded, wandering, searching, and keeping their eyes on the road ahead.

Smoke and Mirrors? (Buba & Clark)

Buba and Clark aren’t exactly friends, they’re cordial most of the time, but they get into arguments easily. Because Buba is a magic user and Clark is a man of science, they disagree on many subjects. Whenever Buba tries to fall back onto magic to explain something, Clark tries to explain the situation through science because of his disbelief in magic. This can lead to a heated argument between the two, where Buba tries to convince Clark that magic is real, and Clark tries to convince Buba that magic is actually just science. These disagreements sometimes get to the point where they start arguing about other unrelated things. The rest of the gang finds it very annoying, and usually tries to split them apart while it’s happening. Clark can explain almost all of the magic that Buba uses, saying how it can be done using materials in his lab. Such as how healing spells are really just the usage of a mixture of chemicals  that speed up the process of tissue growth. Although, there are things that Clark hasn’t been able to explain, but instead of calling it magic he considers it supernatural. Buba usually agrees with Clark that whatever he’s talking about would have a similar, if not the same effect as the magic she’s using, but she still says magic is something completely different then science. Who’s right you ask? That’s for you to decide!
